Highland Park Illinois Student Awarded Scholarship

For seven years, Baizer Kolar & Lewis P.C. has given a worthy local Chicago High School Senior a college scholarship. Liz, our recipient for the 2009-2010 school year, is a remarkable young woman who dedicates a significant amount of her free time educating her peers and adults about Hispanic culture.

As part of a multi-faceted program at Highland Park High School, Liz actively recruits students to participate in conversations about race and our community. She is a valued member of Hispanos Unidos and has taken a leadership role by helping organize many of the group's community and school activities such as Beach Clean-Up and Highwood Downtown Beautification. Liz has been recognized by the Park District of Highland Park for her community service.

Liz is also is a role model at school. She is an honor student and serves as a peer tutor for English Language Learners, all while maintaining a part-time job.

Liz's accomplishments and focus are commendable, and she joins a list of past recipients whose efforts include selfless community involvement. Prior students have volunteered at nursing homes for the blind, and dedicated weekends to helping disabled children and adults, many of whom were injured in car collisions.

Screening applicants is one of our most inspiring and humbling activities each year. Reading about young people who give their time and attention to their local communities gives us renewed faith and admiration for the generations to come.
