I'm Brian Lewis, and id like to share a few tips with you about insurance companies and automobile collisions.
If you've been injured in an automobile collision, the insurance company for the driver who hit you has one goal: to get to you before you get to a lawyer.
Don't be fooled; the insurance company is not watching out for your best interests.
Here are a few things that you should never agree to do if you've been injured in an automobile collision:
- Don't give a recorded statement: the insurance company for the driver who hit you will contact you within days of the crash and try to get you to give a recorded statement. The goal—the purpose in doing this—is to use this statement against you at trial if you ever decide to file a lawsuit. Don't do it.
- Don't take short money. If you've been seriously injured in a crash, the insurance company knows that you are likely to file a lawsuit. The trick is to offer you money up front, and get you to sign a waiver, which relinquishes all of your rights to file a lawsuit down the line. You can be sure that the money the insurance company offers you upfront is insufficient to cover your needs, and is far less than you deserve.
